What the Hell Is A Serum? Why You Should Be Using One.

Q: What is a serum?

A: Glad you asked, they are my favourite kind of skincare! A serum is a product that contains powerful ingredients, usually to combat aging (but could also be for acne, hydration or brightening…so really anything). Serums are designed specifically to penetrate deeply into the skin and perform on a molecular level. They come in different forms, and could have different bases (e.g. an oil-serum). In our skincare routines, serums would come after toning or exfoliating but before moisturizer which leads to the next question…

Q: What is the difference between a moisturizer and a serum?

A: Moisturizers are great for providing hydration to the skin but are designed to sit on top of the skin, generally having much larger molecules. Serums can target particular issues and are much more specialized. They are also more expensive because they contain advanced, active ingredients. Serums are a cornerstone to any skincare routine, especially if you are concerned with preventing or treating signs of aging.

Our amazing serums:

  • Men’s Botanics Ultra Lifting Eye Serum: The eyes are an area of the face where we show aging the most. The skin around the eyes is particularly delicate and fragile. Eye serums work wonders for fine lines, puffiness around the eyes and preventing signs of aging.

  • Menaji Anti-Aging Eraser: This is the strongest anti-aging serum we carry. The Anti-aging eraser will resurface the skin, reduce the look of wrinkles and encourage the skin to produce more collagen (the main chemical that gives our skin elasticity and plumpness).

  • Urth Anti-Oxidant Face Complex: With ingredients like Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid but also calming ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E & B5, this is a great beginner serum.
